How to Design Custom Basketball Uniforms: 7 Tips From a Uniform Maker

Your uniforms are the first thing the other team notices. Here’s how to design custom basketball uniforms that look sharp, fit right, and arrive on time — from someone who makes them every day.

1. Start with your colors, not your logo

Pick two main colors and one accent. Your jersey, shorts, and lettering all pull from this palette, so nailing it first keeps everything else simple. If your school or league already has colors, build around those.

2. Choose number fonts you can read from the stands

Tall, bold, high-contrast numbers. Fancy script looks great up close and terrible from the bleachers — and refs need to read them too. White or light numbers on dark jerseys (and vice versa) always win.

3. Go sublimated for unlimited design

Sublimation prints your design directly into the fabric, so gradients, patterns, and full-color graphics are all possible at no extra cost. The design never cracks, peels, or fades — and every Basketball Jersey costs the same no matter how complex the artwork.

4. Design the jersey and shorts together

The best-looking uniforms treat the set as one design. Carry a stripe, pattern, or accent color from the jersey down through the shorts so the full uniform reads as a unit, not two separate pieces.

5. Get the sizing range right

A typical team spans several sizes. Our Youth Basketball Uniforms run YXS–YXL and adult sizes run S–6XL, so collect every player’s size before ordering — reorders for the one kid you missed always cost more per set.

6. Don’t forget the details that matter on court

Breathable performance polyester, a comfortable athletic cut, and construction that holds up to a full season. These are the things players actually feel in the fourth quarter.

7. Start early — good design takes a round or two

We offer a free custom mockup with every quote, and most teams go through one or two revisions before it’s perfect. Standard turnaround is 10–14 business days after you approve the design, so count backward from your first game and add a buffer.
